What is VinylRank?

VinylRank is a tool built for record collectors who want to quickly understand how rare a vinyl release really is.

By analysing data from Discogs, VinylRank generates a VR Score (Vinyl Rarity Score) that helps you evaluate the scarcity of any release. Simply paste a Discogs release URL or ID into the search bar and VinylRank will calculate the score instantly.

The goal is simple: make it easier to identify rare records, compare pressings, and better understand the market around your collection.

The VR Score

The VR Score measures how scarce a record is.

The score is calculated using key indicators from Discogs data, including how many collectors own the release and whether copies are currently available on the marketplace. The result is a rarity score on a scale from 0 to 100, designed to give collectors a quick and intuitive way to understand how uncommon a record is.

The score is colour-coded so rarity can be recognised at a glance.

Scores between 90 and 100 indicate an ultra rare release with very few copies in circulation.
Scores between 75 and 89 represent very rare records that are difficult to find.
Scores between 60 and 74 indicate rare releases with limited ownership.
Scores between 40 and 59 represent uncommon records.
Scores between 0 and 39 indicate releases that are widely owned and relatively easy to find.
